GBIS Funding Insulate your home for FREE!

The GBIS Government backed scheme could cover 100% of the costs to make energy efficient improvements to your home.

What is GBIS?

GBIS (Great British Insulation Scheme), is a free, Government backed program to improve the energy performance and ratings of properties as well as reducing energy bills and carbon usage. The scheme runs until March 2026 and focuses on installing loft and wall insulation.

The GBIS helps low income households and anyone living in a home with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D-G. To be eligible the property must be in a council tax band of A-D. This is so more individuals can utilise the scheme to make their home more energy efficient.

Who is eligible for an GBIS grant?

There are two ways you could qualify for the GBIS scheme the General Group or the Low-income Eligibility Group.

General Group

To meet the criteria for this group you must be a homeowner. You will be eligible for a single insulation measure which in the majority of cases will be fully funded by the scheme. The property has to be in a Council Tax Band A – D in England (A – E in Scotland and Wales) as well as have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of D or below i.e. D – G.

Low-income Eligibility Group

To qualify for the low-income eligibility group and receive a fully funded insulation or either loft or cavity wall insulation you must be receiving one of these means tested benefits:

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Income Support

  • Pension Credit Guarantee

  • Working Tax Credit

  • Child Tax Credit

  • Universal Credit

  • Housing Benefit

  • Pension Credit Savings

And have an EPC rating of D or below i.e. D – G. This group is open to both homeowners and private tenants.

I am a private tenant, do I qualify?

Yes. The GBIS scheme is open to owner-occupiers and private tenants.  You would however need to get permission from your landlord to apply for the scheme.

How do I find my home’s EPC rating is?
